Like the Sun

“You are the light of the world. A city on that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” –Matthew 5:14

I was at school when the recent solar eclipse was happening. My professor let all of us students get to class late so that we could watch it. My friends and I pulled out our special glasses and we kept glancing at the sun with them, watching the moon pass in front of it. I thought for sure that it would get dark – after all, the sun was covered 96% of the way here! It got slightly hazy and a bit cooler than usual, but it didn’t get dark. It was neat to see, but not quite as exciting as I thought it was going to be…

My grandma came over to our house to visit after that and brought up a good point: Isn’t it amazing that even though only 4% of the sun was showing, it was still as light out as it usually is during the day? She went on to tie it in to the Bible. Think of how bright your light for Christ shows, even though you may only be one person. It only takes a little bit of light to break through the darkness. Matthew 5 says that we are the light of the world. It also says that we should shine our light so that others will see and praise God (Matthew 5:16). It is so important as Christians to remember that we need to share our faith with those around us, even if only through our actions – someone is always watching to see how you will act in a tough situation.

So, even though there may be just one of you, shine your light like the sun in this dark world. People will see – and praise God!

In Christ,

Hi! I’m Macy, a bondservant of Jesus Christ and saved by His amazing grace. I’m sixteen years old and I’m homeschooled along with my three sweet, younger sisters. I really enjoy studying God’s Word, playing games as a family, playing the piano, and writing. I also love seeing how God works through each and every circumstance! He is so good! One of my favorite Bible verses is: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

I am so thankful that you shared your grandma’s wisdom. I would have missed that glorious truth God demonstrated in His creation. May my light shine in this dark world. God bless you, dear girl, as you continue to shine!
