Three Simple Words, One Amazing Story

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” -John 3:16

Jesus loves me. These are three words so often heard that over time, they have lost their meaning. We have forgotten the power and significance of this one simple phrase. Just like any other phrase, there is a story behind these three words. A story that must be told. A story that must never be forgotten. So today in this post, I am going to remind us of the story behind these words.

Jesus’ love for us is unlike any other. The kind of love the world offers is a selfish love; one that only thinks of itself. Jesus’ love is sacrificial. It is putting everyone before yourself. And that is exactly what He did: He healed the sick, lived among outcasts, and loved those who others thought were “unholy.” His whole life was based on sacrificial love. But the best part is that His love is not something you have to earn or be worthy of but accept with open arms as a free gift. (Ephesians 2:8) Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God did not begin loving us when we believed in Him and accepted Him as our Savior. No, He began loving us long before we were even born. That is what makes His love so amazing. He loved us and died for us before we loved or knew Him. (1 John 4:19)

There are many ways throughout Jesus’ life that prove this love to us, but the most significant is the cross. Through this one act of sacrifice, He showed the world how much He truly loved them. I remember when I was a little girl my dad would ask me how much I loved him. I would then stretch my arms out as far as they would go and say, “I love you this much.” As Jesus stretched His arms out to be nailed to that cross, He was saying to us, “I love you this much. I love you so much that I will die for you, so I can see you again one day in paradise.” Every cut and bruise on Him is a sign of His love. Every beating He received was proof that His love is real. Every time He spoke nothing when lies were being spoken against Him showed that nothing could come between His love for us. This is what the phrase, “Jesus loves me” means. These three simple words are filled with more sacrifice and love than any other. Do not take them for granted. The next time you hear them, instead of letting them go in one ear and out the other, savor its meaning. Remember the story that made them true. Remember how much He truly does love you and then go share that love with others.

In Christ,

My name is Callie, and I am sixteen years old. I am homeschooled along with my three amazing siblings. Some of my favorite things to do are studying in God’s word, reading, and writing. My favorite Bible verse is, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

YES. THANK YOU for this reminder! It’s sometimes so, so easy to take this for granted, even though it’s the most amazing event in all of history.
