Jesus Commands My Destiny!

And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” -Hebrews 12:1b-2a

I wanted to give some encouragement about something I’ve been thinking about for a while. A few weeks ago at a church I was at, we sang In Christ Alone (my all-time favorite song!), and while there are so many lines in there that make me stop and think, this one in particular has been grabbing my attention recently. It’s during the climax of the song, and goes,

“From life’s first cry, to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny.”

Like what has been alluded to here so often, as Christians, something has to be different about us…we are called to be the light in the darkness, the salt in a flavorless world. Jesus is in control, He is commanding our destiny. The question is, how much will we follow? How far will we let Him take us and how willingly will we go? We must let Him command our destiny- command where we go and what we do.

The lines before it read, “No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the power of Christ in me.” If we follow Him 100%, we will have no guilt in life because we will be following Him in His power! How freeing that is- not only do we have nothing to fear in death, but when we’re following Christ we don’t need to look back and wonder if what we did was right…there is no guilt in life! Those words are such an encouragement to me as a reminder that Jesus is in control and that following is control brings so much blessing.

“From life’s first cry, to final breath, Jesus COMMANDS my destiny.”

In Christ,

Christopher
