“A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, And a word spoken in due season, how good it is!”
Have you ever been at the point where you needed encouragement in something? Maybe people were ridiculing you for something and you were tempted to give up on it, or maybe it was when you knew the step that God wanted you to take but you were just afraid to do it.
At least for me, words of encouragement give such a boost. In James 3, James tells of the power the tongue has. Even though it is such a small part of our bodies, it has great potential for good or bad. Provers 18:21a says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”
“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” -1 Thessalonians 5:11
“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” -Ephesians 4:29
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good work.” -Hebrews 10:24
Our tongues are powerful, and we can use all that potential to further God’s kingdom! I know that I have a hard time doing this sometimes…sometimes it is easier to tear down…sometimes it is easier to exalt ourselves. It’s a daily struggle! But we can do so much good. I “encourage” you today to be an encouragement to others! The most important thing we can do is encourage people in their walks with Christ.
A word spoken in due season, how good it is!
