“For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.” –Colossians 1:19-20
This is my favorite song. Ever. I still get goosebumps when I sing or hear it…and I’ve probably heard it a million times! It’s a song that goes through who Christ is, what He came to do on earth, what He does for His children who believe on Him. So beautiful.
In Christ alone my hope is found;
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My comforter, my all in all—
Here in the love of Christ I stand.
In Christ alone, my hope is found…in Him alone. We can’t find hope in anything else, because everything else is passing away (Matthew 24:35). Whenever I start to become anxious about something, I remember that line…that my hope is found in nothing but Christ alone. Really puts everything else in the world that is calling our name into perspective.
He is my light, my strength, my song. His Word is a lamp to my feet (Psalm 119:105). In my weakness, His strength is made perfect (2 Corinthians 12:9). I sing, for I cannot be silent. His love is the theme of my song.
No guilt in life, no fear in death—
This is the pow’r of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No pow’r of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home—
Here in the pow’r of Christ I’ll stand.
For those who have accepted Christ’s free gift of salvation, there is no guilt in life, no fear in death! We are delivered. We have been set free from the bondage of sin by Jesus (Romans 6:18). It is Christ’s power in us (Colossians 3:10-11).
From our first cry, to our last breath, Jesus commands our destinies. Like Paul says, we must run the race with our eyes fixed solely on the cross. Let that alone control us and keep us going (Hebrews 12:1-2a).
No pow’r of hell, no scheme of man, can ever pluck us from His hand! We have been saved, and we are forever sealed as His children (John 10:29). We are safe in Christ.
And until He returns or calls us home, we need to stand in the power and strength He gives us (Psalm 68:35).
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” -Ephesians 2:8-9
We are saved from our sin and reconciled to God, not by our works, but in Christ alone.
By grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone,
