“You are the light of the world.”
Hello! Sorry it’s been a while since we’ve done regular posting…life has gotten kinda crazy for a little bit.
I wanted this post to be on what true freedom in Christ is to those who have accepted Him as their Savior.
We have not been saved from our sin to change a little but still act like the world! This is so important. All the time, I see (and I’ve personally done this before as well, so I’m preaching to myself) Christians who surrender most of the areas of their life to God, but not all of them…they have high standards but after awhile of going against the flow, it gets hard. They see other believers (not to mention the world) who aren’t walking with the same standards, and so gradually, they lower their standards. After all, you can still be a Christian but not have high standards, right?
Yes…BUT, that is not what Christ has called us to be. Plain and simple. Cut and dry. Please understand this…we have not been saved to live lifestyles that are a little different than the world. We have been called to a lifestyle that is RADICALLY different than that of the world! In what we watch, in what we listen to, in what we think, and in how we act: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.” -Romans 12:2
The world is lost! We are called to make disciples and spread the Word. But we can’t do that if we’re compromising on the Bible’s standards. The world sees that and says, “There’s nothing different about them.”
We are called to be SALT. What does salt do? It gives taste! Matthew 5:13 talks about how if we lose our taste as believers, we’re good for nothing. We are called to be LIGHT. What does light do? It shines in the darkness and brings glory to God. But we cannot be light if we’re living like those in the dark!
Fix your eyes on Christ and live the way He has called you to: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” –Hebrews 12:1-2a
Don’t change your standards based on what other Christians do. They are not the standard. Christ is. If you are or were convicted about something, stick with it! Don’t change it because you think it’s legalism. Obeying Christ is not legalism. Those little things that you think “It’ll be ok if I drop this standard a little, it’s just a small thing” slowly pile up and before long, your lifestyle has conformed to that of the world…one standard at a time. A good filter my family uses to evaluate things is Philippians 4:8-
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.“ -Philippians 4:8
Christ gave His life so that we can live for Him. Don’t you think we should give Him all of ours?
“Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” –Hebrews 12:3
