Hello everyone! Today, I wanted to share an inspiration that I had earlier this week. I don’t think anyone will be too surprised at this, but I want to be more of a show for Christ. Do you all remember what it says in Matthew 5:14, ”Ye are the light of the world, a city set on a hill shall not be hid”? Personally, I think this verse was the inspiration for a new song by Tenth Avenue North, “Cathedrals.”
Has anyone ever seen a picture of a cathedral? Aren’t they amazing? What is the first thing that you think of when you see one? Well, the first thing I think of is its size. But what strikes me when I look at these majestic buildings is how much they exemplify Jesus. When cathedrals were first being built in the 1200s, they always had the seats lined up just right so that the lanes between them looked like a cross. Images of Jesus were everywhere and seats were carved to have crosses engraved in them. Except for the gargoyles, everything about those buildings made an effort to either show a cross, or an image of Jesus. I want to be like that. We should all be trying to be more of a show for Christ. When something good comes up in our lives, are we taking the credit for it, or are we saying giving the glory to God? Or, when a crisis takes place, are you trusting in the Lord to work it out for good [Romans 8:28], or are you trying to fix it by yourself? Just simple stuff like this is how we make a show for Christ.
Before I end this, I would like to share something that I hope will show all of you how much we owe to God, and it’s from a verse that everybody already knows.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever shall believe in him, shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
– John 3:16
That verse says it all. Praise God! I love the analogy my dad once gave. He asked a father at our church if he would be willing to give his son as a ransom for the 10,000 best people in the world. The other father replied in the negative.
Listen to this: God the Father gave His only son unto death for all of us, even after everything we’ve done! What an amazing love. Thank you, Jesus.
I just want to make one point: Why should we not be cathedrals for Christ after that kind of gift? Down below I have the music video for the song “Cathedrals” by Tenth Avenue North. As you listen to it think about what Christ did for you and how your reasonable service is to give Him everything. Let’s go be cathedrals for Christ.
