Top Posts of 2014: #1- “Make Me Broken…

And we cap off our countdown of our most popular posts for this year with #1!:

so I can be healed.” Have you ever prayed this before to God? This comes from a song by Sidewalk Prophets titled, “Keep Making Me.” I love this song because when you truly pray this to God, you are completely letting go and giving everything to Him. In fact, you are asking Him to break you so you can run to Him.

From my experience, I know it’s a lot easier to be motivated in my relationship with Christ when things are going poorly. That’s when I rely on Him more. And I think the same is true for a lot of people. And for me, there are times when I have nothing left but to surrender everything to Christ because on my own, I am nothing. I’ll be the first to say- it’s tough to ask God to break me so I can run to Him. It’s hard to ask Him to take away the things that I place above Him because I love those things. But there is freedom when we acknowledge that He is our top priority. And even though we can’t see beyond the now, we can trust in His plan and will that can see the whole picture.

Every time this song comes on, I sing it as a prayer to God. It’s a prayer that acknowledges His sovereignty and my willingness to surrender all to Him so that He can mold me into what He wants me to be. I hope that all of us can offer this song up as a sincere desire to know God better:

Make me broken
So I can be healed
‘Cause I’m so calloused
And now I can’t feel
I want to run to You
With heart wide open
Make me broken

Make me empty
So I can be filled
‘Cause I’m still holding
Onto my will
And I’m completed
When you are with me
Make me empty

Make me lonely
So I can be Yours
‘Til I want no one
More than You, Lord
‘Cause in the darkness
I know You will hold me
Make me lonely

‘Til You are my one desire
‘Til You are my one true love
‘Til You are my breath, my everything
Lord, please keep making me

I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.” -Proverbs 8:17 NIV
