“The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death.
…not a drain.” I gotta tell you, I love this quote I heard used by the Benham brothers. It really captures what part of our mission as Christians is. We need to take the love and grace that Christ has poured into us (like a fountain!) and pour that into others.
You don’t want to be a drain.
You want to be a fountain.
Think about what a fountain does: it takes water, and keeps on pumping it out and “re-investing” it. What does a drain do? In the case of water, it drains the water until it is gone.
I found some great verses about fountains in the Bible that really help put a picture to the words:
“The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death.” –Proverbs 14:27
“The words of the mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a rushing stream.” -Proverbs 18:4
“For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer.” -Psalm 32:4
“You will drain that cup of terror to the very bottom. Then you will smash it to pieces and beat your breast in anguish. I, the Sovereign LORD, have spoken!” -Ezekiel 23:34
I challenge you today to be a fountain, not a drain.
