No Man Is An Island!

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

-Hebrews 10:24

My favorite band, Tenth Avenue North, recently released their EP for their new album “Islands.” The single that is now being played on the radio is titled “No Man Is An Island.”

The message of their album is that no one is meant to live alone! The following is by Mike Donehey (lead singer for Tenth Avenue North) about their new album:

You and I my friend, we are not meant to be alone.

Even Adam was given a helpmate.

We were made to commune with God and with one another.  So, if you’re living like an island, come back to the mainland!  No shame is so great, no mistake so large, that you cannot come back to the body!  And, If you’re beating yourself up because you’re lonely, don’t do that. You’re made like God! You should feel unnatural in isolation.

“May they all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you.” -Jesus

May the community who made us, open our eyes to the community all around us.

– Mike Donehey

What he is saying here is so true. As Hebrews 10:24 above states, we need to be in fellowship with other believers. There are many verses throughout the Bible talking about the importance of being with other people and believers in general. And we not only need to be in contact with believers, but we need to be witnessing to unbelievers as well (Matthew 28:16-20).

The tongue has the power of life and death… -Proverbs 18:21a. As believers, we need to be painfully aware of what our actions and words are doing to and for others. Are they bringing people closer to Christ or farther away? How are we representing Christ to the world when we are with others (or even in private)? I chose to put a verse about words in here, but the same applies to every aspect of our life

Be in consistent fellowship with other believers. God calls us to it.

Represent Christ well with whatever you do, whether around believers or unbelievers (1 Corinthians 10:31).

If you want to read more on the power of the tongue, look up James 3. It’s too long to put in here, but is full of great wisdom regarding the tongue.

No man is an island!

In Christ,
