“…so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” -Isaiah 55:11
I figure that this post would be a good opportunity to share with you what happened when we went to witness at Churchill Downs this past weekend.
Unfortunately, Collin was sick and so he wasn’t able to go. However, I was able to go with a few good friends of mine. We got there around 8:30 or so. When we got there, there were already many people going to the track. Even more amazing was the amount of people there to witness for Christ! It was so encouraging to be down there with brothers and sisters in Christ who we had never met. But we were all there to accomplish the same thing, and that created unity. There were people there who travel to major sports events all across the country to witness. Some people even drove from Florida just to be there for Oaks and the KY Derby. At one point in the day, one of the traveling evangelists I was talking to ended up praying with me and my friend. It was awesome!
I’ll fast forward to the middle of the day so you can get a good glimpse of what was going on. As far as we could see, there were two entrances. There were four sidewalks to get to these entrances. To get to entrance one, people had to go past 3 street preachers and go through countless people trying to give them tracts on their way to the gates. We figured this entrance was covered, so my friend and I set up shop near the other entrance. There were sidewalks on both sides of us, and people were coming directly towards us after crossing a street. If people came from the sidewalk on the right side, they encountered street preachers, signs, and people giving them tracts. If people came from the left sidewalk, they encountered more signs and a man handing them tracts. And if they were coming directly at the entrance, they were met by us! Between the two of us, we estimated that we handed out 2,000 tracts. And combine that with our other two friends, we got over 4,000 tracts out. And that’s excluding all of the other people there handing tracts out!
I hope you were able to follow all of that info, but if not, just realize this: over 100,000 people attended the Oaks this year. And due to the way people were set up, at least 100,000 people had the opportunity to hear the Gospel via a street preacher, see the Gospel on a sign, or receive a tract. That is amazing!
Please be in prayer for all of those who heard or saw the Gospel on Friday. We plant the seeds, someone else waters, and God grows it.
