I have been participating in a Bible study with some good friends of mine the last couple months, and we have been going through Kyle Idelman’s book, “Not A Fan.” The main question proposed is this: Are you a fan or a follower?
Fans can talk all about the team on the field, recite their stats, and always be there to cheer from the sideline. And sadly, that’s how many of us approach the Christian walk. We are content with knowing about Christ and cheering Him on, but we’re not in the game. We like to revel in the team’s victories, but we don’t put in the hard hours training. We know a lot about Him, but we don’t know Him well (or at all). Are you a fan?
God has called us to be followers, and the message is simple: we must deny ourselves and pick up our cross daily.
I hope to have time to write more about this book later. But for now, I leave you with this question:
Are you a fan or a follower?
In Christ,
Christopher
