Unquestioned Answers: Part 2

We live in a world where people tend to just accept things the way they are, instead of analyzing what is being pushed in their faces. Last week was just an introduction; for the next couple of weeks I’ll talk about the APOLOGETICS of being a christian.

The following is what Answers In Genesis has to say about christian apologetics:

‘The term “Christian apologetics” doesn’t refer to apologizing (or saying “sorry”) for being a Christian. The confusion arises because the English word apology now has a rather different meaning from the Greek word from which it was derived: απολογια (apología). The latter meant defense. The Greek term comes from words meaning “out of logic/reason,” so refers to a reasoned defense that would be given in a court of law. The classic example is Plato’s Apology, Socrates’ defense against the charges of atheism and corrupting the youth.

Christian apologetics is the reasoned defense of the Christian faith against objections, but also includes the setting forth of positive grounds for Christianity.’

Wow, so a reasoned defense of the Christian faith against objections. What does this mean? It means that we, as Christ’s followers, need to give answers to the questions the world throws at us about our faith. However, we also need to be able to ask questions about the things the world throws us from a christian worldview.

What IS a christian worldview? A worldview is ‘the way someone thinks about the world’ (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). So a CHRISTIAN worldview, is thinking about the world with the views and opinions of a christian. We should see the world through Jesus’ eyes. Let’s look at some things the world throws at us that we need to dissect a little more.

  • Evolution- The world, schools, TV, magazines, the internet and other sources tell you that the world began by a BIG BANG and then the cells that generated spontaneously and evolved and evolved to become the sophisticated human beings that we are today. There are many problems with this theory. First of all, Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth.” This verse tells us that God created Earth, not some random nothingness coming together and exploding to create the very detailed and beautiful world that we have today. Also, the word CREATED literally means “Made from nothing”. So, if you believe in the Bible, evolution is impossible to believe.
  • Ads- Back to the future. We see over 3000 ads everyday. Movies, games, commercials, TV shows, etc. That’s thousands and thousands of secular ideas being pushed in our faces everyday. I’m not saying don’t pay attention to anything that shows an ad, but ask yourself if it is something that you REALLY need to be seeing, doing, or taking in.

There are many more things that you need to analyze and dissect, but this is all we have time for today. Come back next week for more!

What are some negative things or ideas that you notice are surrounding you?
